Planning a romantic weekend in Bordeaux? The city is full of places made for couples — and we've put together our programme from our B&B in the heart of the Saint-Michel neighbourhood.

Day 1 — Bordeaux at Your Own Pace

In the morning, there's no rush. Breakfast is delivered to your studio door — homemade muesli, pastries, fresh orange juice — at whatever time suits you. Then head out on foot to explore the Saint-Michel neighbourhood. The basilica and its 114-metre spire dominate the skyline — a landmark that has reclaimed its full splendour following its 2026 restoration. Stroll through the surrounding streets, and if you're there on a Sunday, browse the flea market around the square — one of the largest in south-west France.

For lunch, walk 5 minutes to the Marché des Capucins. Pull up a stool at the counter, order oysters and a glass of white wine. Simple, fresh, and exactly what Bordeaux locals do at the weekend.

In the afternoon, head towards the centre. The Miroir d'eau at Place de la Bourse is unmissable — the reflection of the listed facades in the thin sheet of water is stunning, especially in late afternoon when the light shifts. Continue along the riverbanks, or take a detour along Rue Sainte-Catherine if shopping calls.

Take a moment to admire the Grand Théâtre — one of the most beautiful theatres in the world, which inspired Charles Garnier when he designed the Paris Opera House. If you don't have time for a show, the tourist office organises daily guided tours.

In the evening, start with a drink in our wine cellar with a selection of Bordeaux wines. For dinner, the city has no shortage of romantic tables: from Place Fernand Lafargue to Place du Parlement, or the quieter Rue Ausone and Rue Chai des Farines. For food lovers, Philippe Etchebest's Quatrième Mur. For a panoramic view, Restaurant le 7 at the Cité du Vin. For a more relaxed evening, tapas at Alriq with views over the Garonne, or Les Chantiers de la Garonne with your feet in the sand. Full recommendations at bordeauxsaintmichel.com/quartier.

Day 2 — Escape

In the morning, a well-earned lie-in. Breakfast is again left quietly at your door.

Two options for the day:

Option A — Cultural immersion. Step hand in hand into the luminous world of the Bassins de Lumières — the world's largest digital art centre, housed in a former submarine base. A truly extraordinary sensory experience. Another option in the city: the new Via Sensoria experience at the Cité du Vin, open since April 2026, for an immersive journey through wine using all five senses (15 minutes by tram from the neighbourhood).

Option B — Out of the city. In under 40 minutes by train from Gare Saint-Jean (15 minutes' walk from the B&B), you can be in Saint-Émilion. In the heart of this UNESCO-listed medieval village, visit the 12th-century monolithic church, then taste excellent wines in the bars and restaurants along its sloping cobbled streets. Go in the late afternoon when the crowds thin out and the setting sun brings out the warmest tones in the golden stone. An hour away by train, Arcachon is another option if the weather allows — dinner on the beach at Club Pereire, feet in the sand.

At the end of the day, back in Bordeaux, make your way to the Pont de Pierre, 7 minutes' walk from the B&B. At sunset, it's one of the most romantic views in the city: the golden Garonne, the lively quays, the silhouette of the Saint-Michel basilica in the background. To extend the evening with a rooftop drink, the Radisson offers sweeping views over the Bacalan district and its harbour, while the Mama Shelter rooftop looks out over the rooftops of the historic centre.

Your Romantic Studio in the Heart of Bordeaux

For a successful romantic weekend, where you stay matters as much as what you do. Our studios in the Saint-Michel neighbourhood are designed for couples: a cosy mezzanine with a queen-size bed, a separate living area, a fully equipped kitchen — and breakfast delivered to your door every morning so you never have to leave your bubble.

The Saint-Michel neighbourhood itself is an invitation to wander: its cobbled streets, the newly restored basilica, the Sunday flea market and the restaurants nearby make every stay feel like a genuine escape, far from hotel chains.

All our recommendations for outings and restaurants are available at bordeauxsaintmichel.com/quartier.
